Natural Attractions

Riverwalk Augusta stretches along the river downtown, allowing visitors a picturesque event space or just a leisurely stroll through the gardens and shaded walkways. There is an outdoor venue space called the Jessye Norman Amphitheatre along the water as well.

Lake Olmstead Park invites visitors to use the walking track, boating access, and disc golf course. The park was the site of the 2006 Professional Disc Golf Association World Championship games.

J. Strom Thurmond Lake is one of the largest and most popular man-made lakes in the South. Located on the border of Georgia and South Carolina, the 71,000 acres of water and over 1,000 miles of shoreline offers great outdoor activities like swimming, boating, fishing, and picnicking.

Augusta Canal National Heritage Area has the country's only functioning, in use industrial power canal built in 1845 to harness the Savannah River's power. The area is also now used for hiking, biking, boating and boat tours, and other recreational activities.
